The aromas detected take one on a journey of black cherries, fruitcake and nuances of shortbread. With cinnamon spice and soft black cherry flavors, this wine was crafted to be tasty and enjoyable. The grapes were slightly pressed to retain good tannins and was aged in stainless steel tanks to maintain the crisp fruit. | ||

Cooling sea breezes and Antarctic currents contribute to the near perfect growing conditions at such an elevated site, allowing for their eclectic new-age range of wines. All of the wines are handcrafted, nurtured, bottled and matured on the estate. The 2004 Signet Red is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Shiraz which shows firm tannins and spicy aromas of fresh concentrated raspberry and mocha. The Merlot in the blend presents mulberry fruits combined with ripe plum temptations. Its a delicious, juicy and fine textured wine perfect for hearty meats and cheeses. | ||

Code: MARC04 | Earlier this year, when the 2007 International Wine Challenge awards were announced in London, Bill and Haidee Marklew along with winemaker Duan Brits held their breath in frozen anticipation, only to realize they had just won the most prestigious Gold Medal award for this 2004 Cabernet Sauvignon. This was the first international wine competition the winery has ever entered, but it turned out to be a drop in the bucket when only a few months later, John Platter Awards and South Africa's Veritas awarded it as well with high honors. Its well-toned muscular body is full of rich cassis and mulberry fruit aromas. Having spent 12 months in French oak, the pleasing mouth feel yields a long lasting finish that is just oozing with dark berry and vanilla flavors. This wine will finish off your meal of venison, ostrich steak or beef stew flawlessly. Pinotage, which is a blend of Pinot Noir and Cinsault, which provides rich and powerful wines that many people have never tasted . Grown in Tulbuagh, which is northeast of Capetown, these grapes were crushed and vinified in an old stone cellar of the Dutch East India Company's trading outpost and for this reason Oude Compagnies is the only winery in South Africa that is allowed to feature the DEIC's standard. The 2006 Pinotage's aromas of blackberry and oak announce its presence with authority while the palate continues its attack on your senses with a rich and firm body filled with warm chocolate notes and raspberries.
