Code: CBGRNV | Chateau de Bligny is a small, family owned winery located southwest of Epernay along the famous A5 motorway. The vineyards that have been supplying this property with grapes since the 12th Century. Once owned by the Cistercian Abbey of Clairvaux, the winery has gone through a lot of changes but the Castle from the 1770's still remains as does its underground cellar from the same period. Bligny's Grande Reserve is a 50-50 blend of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. While the nose is still a little closed on this wine and waiting to open, the palate exhibits a very refined character of ripe fruit and well balanced acidity. This is a Champagne made to enjoy for all celebratory occasions and will also pair well with caviar, fresh oysters and succulent crab legs. | ||

Code: CBBRNV | The Chateau de Bligny Brut Rose Grande Reserve is a twin of the regular Grande Reserve, just rose in color! Most people don't know that Pinot Noir is the most common grape in Champagne even though most Champagne is clear in color. However, by leaving the Pinot Noir grape skins in contact with the juice for just a few days, the grape skins' pigment bleeds into the wine giving the juice a pink or 'rose' color. Bligny's Rose is a wonderfully complex wine, with fresh aromas of strawberry and pain grille accentuated by ripe fruit and terrific acidity culminating in a long, tantalizing finish. | ||

With vineyards that face the south and southeast, a favored micro-climate and a fertile soil which propagates exceptional results, the aptly named commune is rated 100% Grand Cru. The Beaufort family cultivates some 16 hectares of vineyards, 13 hectares of which are planted with Pinot Noir, the rest with Chardonnay grapes.The combination of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay has given this Champagne a beautiful yeasty nose, great fruit and an elegant body. | ||

Code: CBC96 | Chateau de Bligny's 'Coeur de Cuvee' is a label that is only used when the winery can produce 'Vintage' Champagne. Since Champagne is the most northerly wine-region in France, not every year will produce a crop good enough to stand on its on, so most Champagnes are blended from multiple vintages. However, as Olivier Krug likes to say, 'Vintage Champagne is a joint venture between the winemaker and the climate.' Such was the case in 1996 when the region experienced a fantastic growing season that allowed for complete ripeness of their grapes. Chateau de Bligny was able to produce a Vintage Champagne in this year, and as always, it is 100% Chardonnay, or 'Blanc de Blancs.' The 1996 'Coeur de Cuvee' is classic Brut-style Champagne that has an earthy nose complimented by a touch of warm toast. Dry and tight with a good mouthfeel, firm acidity and well pronounced Chardonnay fruit, this wine is more than worthy of a Vintage Champagne. Robert Parker rated the 1996 Champagne vintage 91pts and Wine Spectator gave the vintage 95 overall points | ||

Code: DOMP98 | An effervescent wine of a golden hue with glints of silver and green and very delicate, numerous and vivacious bubbles that form an unbroken ring in the glass. The wine is bright, limpid and displays good concentration. The nose has fine intensity with classic background aromas of purée of apples, poached pears, vanilla, hazelnuts, Melba toast and yellow-plum jam as well as superb hints of quince and chalk. On the palate the attack is incisive and combines acidic freshness with the finesse of the bubbles. It's also very fruity with flavors of very ripe light-colored fruit. Try it with rock lobster Parisian style, lobster thermidor, caviar, poached turbot with champagne sauce, or, on its own, since Dom Pérignon is sufficient unto itself. | ||

Rudesheimer Weinkellerei, maker of our famous Alt Cuvee (ADC), produced this beauty specifically for us from Sangiovese grapes grown in Northern Italy. The winery usually produces this wine as trocken or dry but we convinced them to produce a wine with more fruit for our customers (even though they looked at us a little cock-eyed).
